  • DVFREE Workplace ‘First Responder’ Training: online/remote

DVFREE Workplace ‘First Responder’ Training: online/remote
    From $379.50

Specialist training to provide workplace support for staff who experience domestic violence: You are eligible to attend this training only if you are more than 60km from city centres: Auckland, Wellington & Christchurch.. Reduced fees available for SMEs (small to medium enterprises) and NFPs (not-for-profits).

Otherwise, you can register for First Responder Training in one of these main city centres.

What is the First Responder role?

‘First Responders’ are the designated workplace contact people within an organisation for staff experiencing domestic violence. Training is critical to prepare First Responders to respond safely and effectively to staff who experience domestic violence while being clear on their professional boundaries.

Refer to our FREE Guidelines for Policy and Procedures for specific advice on how to appoint the right people to be your organisation's First Responders.

NOTE: A maximum of three people from any one organisation may register for an online training session. If you are concerned that this will not meet urgent training needs for your organisation, please get in touch with us to discuss by emailing dvfree@2shine.org.nz.

    Inhouse training option:
If you are a medium to large employer, we strongly encourage you to train a team of First Responders by organising an inhouse training session, with our trainer coming to your venue. Besides being the most efficient use of your staff time, this means that training discussions can be tailored to, and focus on, your workplace environment, with the added benefit of building stronger relationships amongst your First Responders, which will help them to support each other in this challenging role. Contact us to discuss this option.

This Training will prepare your First Responders to:

    • recognise signs that someone may be experiencing domestic violence
    • respond safely and supportively
    • refer to a specialist domestic violence organisation
    • offer and provide workplace support, including workplace safety planning
    • understand issues around confidentiality and information sharing
    • support managers with team members experiencing domestic violence
    • explain the appropriate role of EAP in a workplace response to domestic violence
    • understand professional boundaries
    • understand when and how to seek advice for supporting an employee
    • understand at a high level, an appropriate employer response to staff who perpetrate domestic violence

    Online/Remote First Responder Training Dates:

    • 29 June - 1 July 2021
    Training Format:

These sessions are held for a maximum of 16 participants. On the first day, each participant has a one-hour individual Zoom session with the trainer. On the second and third days, there are group training Zoom sessions from 9am to 12.30pm.

Day 1: One-hour individual Zoom session with a trainer to review pre-workshop learning, discuss the First Responder role, ensure technology is functional, and to assess suitability of participant training location. We recommend participating from a private workspace, to ensure that others, and especially young people, are protected from the sensitive content of this session. We can also discuss any concerns relating to the participant’s personal experience of domestic violence – recent or historical.
Day 2 and 3: Group Zoom training sessions, from 9am to 12.30pm.

Prior to training: One to two weeks before your training, we will contact you to schedule your individual session and send your required pre-workshop learning. Prior to the training days, we will send Zoom links for your one-hour individual session on Day 1, and the group sessions on Day 2 and 3.

IT requirements: These are straightforward for joining a Zoom meeting - you will need audio and video capability, which most laptops have. More info on the Zoom website about joining a Zoom meeting, but it is a fairly user-friendly process. We advise that you use a headset that can plug into your laptop if there are others nearby whom you would not want exposed to the sensitive content of this training session.

Spaces are limited, so register now to book your space by clicking on your selected Date in the dropdown box at the bottom of this page, adding to your cart, then going to your shopping cart to finish your registration.

STRONGLY RECOMMENDED: We strongly recommend that someone within your organisation read our free Guidelines for Policy & Procedures to help inform the development of your domestic violence policy and procedures. We recommend that you consult with Shine on your policy and procedures. There is a discount available to people who've attended DVFREE First Responder or Manager training: DVFREE 1 to 1 Policy Consultation by Skype.

If you wish to be sent an invoice for payment instead, please contact us.
